Welcome to Da Nang: A Haven for Digital Nomads
Hello! We’re Tiffany and Anton, and we have been living in Da Nang for the last years. Well, thats not completely true – Tiffany is born and raised here – so she has seen a lot of changes in the city. If you’re considering Da Nang as your next destination for remote work, you’ve chosen wisely. Known for its stunning landscapes, friendly locals, and vibrant culture, Da Nang offers the perfect blend of work and leisure. Whether you prefer the calming waves of the beach or the bustling streets of the city, Da Nang caters to all lifestyles.
Discovering Da Nang: Beachside vs. City Side
Let’s first dive into the first split. Da Nang is split into two distinct districts and vibes: the serene Beachside and the lively City Side, each offering unique environments for digital nomads. They are split apart by the river Hàn river. Let’s see the pro’s and con’s of both area’s.
Beachside
Pros:
- Beautiful, extensive beaches ideal for relaxation or seaside work.
- Quieter residential areas perfect for deep work and concentration.
- Numerous health and wellness opportunities, including beach yoga and surf schools.
- Coworking Danang is located on this side of the city!
Cons:
- Higher living costs compared to the city side (but still affordable)
- Seasonal tourist influx can occasionally disrupt the peaceful environment
- Less ‘local’ experience
City Side
Pros:
- Dynamic urban atmosphere with rich cultural experiences.
- Cost-effective living with a wide range of budget-friendly accommodations and eateries.
- Experience true local living
Cons:
- Noise and higher pollution levels might detract from quality of life.
- More congested living and working spaces.
- Occasional safety concerns in bustling urban areas, especially at night.
In our opinion, the beach side is the nicest area to stay. Anton has lived at the city side for some time, but it turned out he was crossing the Dragon bridge every day to get towards the beach. As a nomad, the best area to stay is the beach side.
But on each side, there are multiple diverse districts as well. Basically anywhere it will be fine if you drive a scooter or motorbike, the drive is never much more then 20 minutes. Still tho, each district in Da Nang presents its own character and advantages, making them worth exploring based on your work preferences and lifestyle.
Son Tra District (Beachside)
Pros:
- It’s close to the Son Tra mountain – which is a nice city escape.
- Less commercialized beaches offer serene spots for relaxation.
- Good security and upscale neighborhoods provide peace of mind.
Cons:
- Remote location might feel isolating without frequent social activities.
- Limited shopping and entertainment options.
- Sometimes it can be a bit smelly due to some factories and the harbor nearby
Hai Chau District (City Side)
Pros:
- Heart of the city offers everything within walking distance.
- Best public transportation access in Da Nang.
- Cultural hubs like museums and theaters enrich daily life.
Cons:
- Higher living expenses due to central location.
- Noise from traffic and nightlife can be overwhelming.
Ngu Hanh Son District (Beachside)
Pros:
- Proximity to both the mountains and the sea makes for a picturesque setting.
- Growing expat community fosters quick friendships and networking.
- Increasing number of international dining options cater to diverse tastes.
- Coworking Danang is in this area!
- A lot calmer area, that is relaxing and has all the amenities you need.
Cons:
- Property prices are rising due to its increasing popularity.
- Main beachroad can get congested during rush hour, particularly around tourist hotspots.
Lien Chieu District (City Side)
Pros:
- Emerging as a new technology and industrial hub.
- Quieter beaches like Xuan Thieu offer privacy and tranquility.
- More spacious and affordable accommodation options.
Cons:
- Still under development, which means fewer services and facilities.
- Longer commutes to the city center can be time-consuming.
Cam Le District (City Side)
Pros:
- Deep immersion into local life provides authentic experiences.
- Lower costs for both accommodation and daily needs.
- Growing number of small businesses and local markets.
Cons:
- Fewer English-speaking locals may pose communication challenges.
- Less modern infrastructure compared to more developed districts.
Our advise would be to stay either in the Ngu Hanh Sonh district or in the Son tra district. The biggest communities of expats, while maintaining a local atmosphere can be found here. It’s a great way to explore the unique culture of Vietnam – while having access to conveniences as well.
